LGBTQ in Schools
“Gay-straight alliances are student-led clubs that aim to make the school community a safer place for all students regardless of their sexual orientation. Their members include lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their straight allies” (UBC, 2014). These types of alliances are extremely helpful towards having a more inclusive school environment. The issue is that there is very little in the curriculum towards educating the rest of the school community in LGBT-Q matters. This website will take you through several perspectives by looking at factors such as History, Legal battles, pros vs. cons and recent advocacies so that you can take your own informative point of view in the matter. The website does have a conclusion from the contributors however, don't let this be the final word, take part in the forum and bring your point of view forward.
The collaborators of this website have also made a huge effort to include as many teacher resources as possible in case you wish to bring LGBTQ understanding into your classroom.
